Here are some
other questions that new clients frequently ask us.
How long is
our shoot going to take?
Only as long as it takes for us to capture the photos you need! Some sessions can be completed in an hour or two. Others take longer ... because of challenging lighting
situations, for example, or the need to capture exactly the right action or expression, or to reproduce colors and details with the greatest possible accuracy.
We'll be happy to sit down with you to discuss your project and come up with an estimate of the time that it requires.
How much is it going to cost?
As commercial photographers, our billing structure is based on time and expenses — unlike portrait studios, whose business is geared to repeat sales of photographic prints. Your cost depends on how long it takes us to produce the quality photographs you want, plus direct expenses (film, processing and travel).
These are one-time charges. The images are yours to use and reproduce as you wish, as often as you wish.
P.S.: We accept MasterCard and Visa.
Who owns the copyright to my photos?
You do — upon payment of the invoice. When comparing prices, keep this in mind! It can be a major issue. Most portrait studios and many other commercial photographers maintain their ownership under the federal Copyright Act, limiting your ability to legally reproduce and use their images without paying additional fees.
Why
should I bring my commercial photo needs to Russ Hanson
in Fargo rather than my hometown photo studio?
There are several
good reasons ....
- Our photos are created specifically for reproduction — in printed publications, for displays, for packaging and in multi-media. Looking good in print requires far different lighting and tonal ranges than portraits destined only for photographic reproduction.
We transfer all ownership rights to you, including the legal right to freely reproduce your photo as often and in as many ways as you see fit. Most portrait photographers maintain their ownership right to the images they shoot. Under federal law, you do not have the right to copy or reuse their photos without making specific arrangements and often paying additional fees.
- We're equipped to shoot in almost any location under almost any conditions. We provide extensive strobe and quartz lighting systems, along with materials needed to correctly reproduce images in all kinds of settings.
- The biggest difference is experience! We have more than 25 years experience in commercial photography for newspapers, magazines, advertising, catalogs, books, annual reports, trade show displays, multimedia programs ... virtually every form in which photographs can be used to create the results you're looking for.
